Acro Yoga part 2 (partnership Yoga) “AcroYoga classes start in an ‘Opening Circle’. The Opening Circle begins with everyone introducing themselves, sharing with the group what is going on in their bodies and whether there are any physical limitations such as injuries or illnesses. In AcroYoga it is very important to know whether anyone is
suffering from any ailments, not only for the teacher but for all the participants. There is a lot of partner and group work involved so it is important to create a safe environment for the practice. The Opening Circle also sets the tone and the theme of the class that is to follow. After introduction and body issues, it is time for the ‘Ice Breaking Question’ of the class A few weeks ago, I was co-teaching with Jaqui Wan. As an ice breaking question, Jaqui wanted
to ask the students which was their favorite Michael Jackson song. To set the theme, I decided that throughout the class music of the King of Pop should play. It was very interesting to see just how much music affects our practice. Personally, I like to play music during asana practice, whether for my self-practice or during class. I find that it helps me focus more and to control the chitta vritti (fluctuations of the mind). Sometimes I find that if very familiar music is playing, I get distracted and want to
sing along! At other times, if no music is playing, my mind keeps wandering. So, for me, I have found it is best to use uplifting music with inspiring lyrics to help me to keep my chitta vrittis under control!...”
