Yoga therapy - an interview with the Desikachars Yoga & Health for July contains an interview with TKV Desikachar and his son Kausthub and the first extract from a book on TKV Desikachar, which outlines his early years, and how he came to be involved in continuing and expanding the work of his father, Tirumalai Krishnamacharya, despite initially intending to become an engineer.
”...He studied with his father longer than any
other student and understands better than anyone the breadth of Krishnamacharya’s work and its relevance to modern life, particularly in the area of healing. Increasingly, Desikachar’s life long work is being recognised by the broader Yoga community as the heart of Yoga’s long history, as well as its unfolding future... For 30 years, Desikachar has been the respected and creative steward of the Krishnamachary Yoga Mandiram (KYM)
, a non-profit charitable trust, which he founded in 1976 in honour of his father. The central work of the KYM is bringing health and well-being to others through the healing practice of Yoga Therapy...” The interview with TKV Desikachar and Kausthub took place following a week long training workshop attended by people from all over the UK and Europe. It covers Desikachar’s views on the modern ‘Yoga world’ and the future of Yoga. “Q. What plans do you have for the future? A. (TKVD) My main plan is to translate all the teachings my father left written in his own native tongue, into English. He has left
many, many writings and because of the way they are written down, I feel I am the only person who is properly equipped to do this task. This will take many years to cmplete. My father spent over 8 years in Tibet where he received many teachings. He also drew from the very rich Yogic inheritance from Southern India. Not all the knowledge or great masters came from the north!...
(K) I plan to carry on my father’s work. I have been travellin to many countries, leading workshops and giving talks. Many people have shown a grt interest, so I intend to continue in this way...” |
