Interview with Mark Tully “... I had a twofold purpose in writing this book [INDIA’S UNENDING JOURNEY: FINDING BALANCE IN A TIME OF CHANGE]. I very much believe in the idea that life is a balance. One of the main problems in the West is that we lurch from one extreme to
another. It is very helpful in one’s own life to see if we go too far in one direction or another. In India there is the strong concept of ‘dharma’ or underlying balance in life, a ‘law of righteousness’ which holds everything in balance, including nature. This is very important for us to recognise. Our job is to try to keep in tune with that law. As I explained in my preface, the book began from my belief that the Hindu
tradition which maintains that there can be many ways to God could help Christians examine those of their beliefs which have made them question the validity of other faiths, including other Christian traditions than their own...”
The interview continues to discuss Mark Tully’s views on Indian culture, the growing interest in Eastern spirituality and the speed of change in India.
