Mira Mehta:
“I think people are hungry to know more about yoga. There is a solid background of practice, and people want to complement it with understanding.”
“The knowledge given in Ayurveda informs yoga practice in several ways. Firstly, Ayurvedic anatomy and physiology provides a theoretical basis for understanding the way in which yoga asanas and pranayama work. Secondly, Ayurveda teaches the general principles of energy management ... Thirdly, it recommends various daily and periodic healthcare routines for the preservation and strengthening of the body. Fourthly, an overview of its approach in other specialisations gives a perspective of the extent to which yoga can provide alternative or supplementary methods of treatments.
The above points outline the overlap between yoga and Ayurveda, showing how yoga can also be prophylactic and curative... Yoga is not a medical science, it is outstandingly efficacious in maintaining health and preventing disease. It can alleviate or cure structural defects and physiological disfunction.
